Membership is open to everyone and everyone is welcome!

The Lakeland Horticultural Society has over 1,500 members from all walks of life and from all parts of the country, united both by a common interest in horticulture and a willingness to support a unique garden in its idyllic setting and the many volunteers who maintain it.

Members enjoying a break during a painting courseMembership offers the opportunity to participate at any level in the horticultural, educational and social life of the Society, as well as the pleasure of visiting Holehird from time to time, simply to enjoy the Gardens and their peaceful atmosphere, or perhaps discuss problems with our many knowledgeable gardeners or even to take advantage of the well-stocked reference and lending library.

The Lakeland Gardener

The Society's journal 'The Lakeland Gardener' containing articles by local and national experts in their various fields is sent to members in Spring and Autumn, and three Newsletters during the year keep members informed of the varied programme of courses, talks, garden visits and social events.

The Members' Room

New members joining The Lakeland Horticultural Society are invited to attend a New Members' Meeting held at Holehird Gardens.  In order to be made welcome and to meet other members, there is a guided tour of the gardens and opportunities to learn a little of how the Society is maintained and managed.

  • Members' Events

As an educational charity, the Lakeland Horticultural Society organises mini-lectures, courses, garden visits and educational tours for its members as well as holding social events.  Please note that numbers are limited on some of the courses; see newsletter for details.
  • Volunteering

All the work of the Lakeland Horticultural Society is carried out entirely by volunteers.  Although a few tasks such as tree surgery and tarmac-laying are put out to contract, everything else is done by Society members.
